Recap

game highlights

Both of the Oxford League stalwarts were without some of their regular players as the game was played on a Thursday.  In fact, the number of spectators at the game may have outnumbered the players.  The Oddsox fielded an all female left-side of the infield, and due to a surplus of female players for the Angels (what a great problem to have!) Emily played as a male for the evening.  The Oddsox strategy proved wise, as Rachael earned MVP honours for her defensive efforts and Katie had another solid game at shortstop.  Babs rolled back the years and proved once again why she is most women’s softball idol by playing a fabulous game at 2B, being 1/2 of the game’s only double play being just 1 of her highlights.  Both outfields fielded well and caught fly balls when possible, and kept most of the others in front.  JP covered the 1/3 of the earth not covered by water and seemingly was involved in almost every play.  The Angels started off well with 5 runs in the top of the 1st, only for the Oddsox to respond with 5 of their own in the bottom of the 2nd to tie the game at 7 apiece.  From there on, either team would score more than 2 runs in an inning only once.  The Angels scored 5 more in the top of the 5th, which coupled with some clutch 2 out HRs proved to be the difference and the Angels came out on top, 18 – 11.  The result was a welcome birthday present to the Angels Co-Captain, Jen.  Thanks to Tom from the Tigers who did a cracking job his first time as umpire.
