The Oxford League Tournament Team (Ox Factor) is currently run via the following principles.
- The initiative should be led by 2-3 individuals from the Oxford league
- These individuals should be approved by the OSA Exec each year to ensure that the principles here are always followed
- Recruitment should be open, transparent and well publicised across all Oxford league teams
- Nevertheless, a degree of subjectivity must be used to make the team ‘work’ (e.g. the selection cannot be purely by batting stats and fielding awards)
- Criteria for selection will include consideration that it is desirable that all league teams are represented
- Players who become established as part of the team should ideally become permanent members, for continuity and for a sense of ‘team’
- (The above principles may become difficult to balance: thus, a rotation of players in two line-ups could be used in alternating tournaments, or a second team could be formed.)
- The team should begin at lower rec. standard, but aim to either develop towards upper rec. or produce two teams
- The team(s) should be constituted by players exclusively from the Oxford league
- Players from other leagues to only be included in exceptional circumstances (e.g. where the team finds itself unexpectedly short of players)
- At first, promote individuals who possibly lack tournament experience, but include a few more experienced players to ensure that the team operates well as a unit
- If possible, encourage attendance at training sessions
- But avoid clashing with existing training sessions (e.g. rookie training or fundraising training currently being delivered by our GB representatives)
- No participation in the Oxford tournament: local league teams should be encouraged to enter
- Organisers of Oxon should encourage other league teams to enter tournaments
