Season: 2021

Mavericks @ Rebels

game highlights

Mavericks got off to a hot start with the bat and were up 7-3 after the 3rd. Rebels woke up in the field and followed that up with two shutouts and a couple of runs in the 5th to get back to 7-5. Rebels turned the game on its head with an 8-run mercy in the 6th to go into the top of 7th 4 runs ahead. Some clutch pitching in the 6th and 7th from Steve Roberts on a long awaited debut helped Rebels close the game out with a quick stop courtesy of two great outs from Tom H debuting at shortstop in the 7th due to injury.

Couple of great catches in the outfield from Rebels early on and Bertie caught everything in sight at left field for Mavericks, two of which were big hits from Rachael that stopped some much needed Rebels runs early on. Lucy was a safe hand on 2B for Mavericks and got a number of key outs. Mavericks loaded the bases and ran bases brilliantly throughout forcing a number of fielding errors from Rebels. Lesley and Steve rolled back the years to the Devils days and showed the Rebels rookies how bases should be run with some brilliant team running. James hit 1000 and 4R(1HR) topped off in the 6th with a fantastic slip on the corner of 1B that turned a comfortable triple into a risky single. Chris hit a 2 RBI triple in the 6th with an elegant slip into 3B and somehow stayed safe to secure the 8-run mercy.

Tigers @ Spirits

game highlights

Spirits made their mark right from the start, with Becky leaping from 2B for a great catch off the first hit of the game from Cliff. They took the first inning 8-0, but Tigers got their fielding together in the second, stopping Spirits after 1 run, then got their batting going in the third, ramping up to 7 (very nearly 8) runs in the fifth, including a home run from Clint. But Spirits kept pushing, with home runs of their own, quick relays from the outfield and some terrific work across the infield, especially at shortstop by Daniel, to keep the lead. In the field for Tigers, Cliff got his revenge with 3 catches in left field, Dustin had a great catch and an assist in his League debut at left centre field, and Abii took a catch or two and impressed at 3B despite only playing catcher before.

most Valuable Players

Tigers: Abii Boswell-Harris and Dustin Fox
Spirits: Becky Cottrell and Daniel Essen

Beavers @ Angels

game highlights

It was a nice friendly game with some fine plays and the return of an Oxford legend, Steve Roberts. At least 5 runners were tagged out at 3rd on relays from the outfield. Irving hit a home run that still has not stopped rolling. Lesley made an excellent catch in deep right centre field to save a few runs. Grace made the perfect deflection to the first baseman’s glove, it’s a shame she was the runner! And Tom W saw a barrage of balls hit his way but did an excellent job stopping most of them, saving many runs in the process. But ultimately the Angels balanced attack (every Angels player had at least 2 hits) proved too much. Conner, aka “Hollywood”, also made a basket catch while running in from left field, and all other rookies showed progress both in the field and in their stat lines.

Most Valuable Players

Angels: Bryony O’Neill and Conner Crawford
Beavers: Lesley Bowman and Tom Wheaton

Knights @ Oddsox

game highlights

Some good hitting from Oddsox, who managed to find the gaps, saw three home runs in a row for JP and one for Rachael. Good work from Katie at short stop saw a double play at 2B from Johnny at pitcher and then on to Scott on 1B. Oddsox kept it tight in the field throughout. Knights found it hard to get their bats going, but did get a home run and had good hits from Chris and Dom. Vesa had a good game on 2B and then 1B to secure MVP.

Oddsox @ Mavericks

Game highlights

The Oddsox and Mavericks fought a really close game with both teams fielding well. Throughout the first four innings, both teams shut each other out 3 times which brought the score to 5-1 in favour of the Oddsox. The Oddsox then pulled away in the 5th and 6th, but the Mavericks shut them out in the 7th and started to come back with their own offensive drive clawing back a number of runs. Big shout out to the Mavericks’ Monique and the Oddsox’s Rachael–both ladies had a fantastic game on third base and were pretty good with the bat, too!

most Valuable Players

Oddsox: Rachael Monteiro and Jake Roberts
Mavericks: Monique Geyer-Johnson and Max Goddard
